Rules of conduct
Please use the library in a way that respects other students, faculty, staff, library materials, and the facility.
- Avoid noisy, disruptive, threatening, obscene, or abusive behaviour.
- Do not misuse or deface library materials, equipment, or facilities.
- Do not obstruct entrances, exits, or emergency exits.
- Tobacco, alcohol, intoxication, roller skates, and roller blades are not permitted.
- Keep feet off tables and chairs.
- Food and uncovered drinks must be kept away from computers.
Theft of library materials may be prosecuted. Patrons who do not follow these rules may be asked to leave.
Collection development
The collection supports curriculum, teaching, learning, research, and scholarly activity at CADH. It includes books, DVDs, journals, online databases, licensed off-site resources, selected internet resources, and other interactive materials.
Collection development includes selecting new resources, assessing the existing collection, and maintaining materials in areas connected to the curriculum and current developments in dentistry.
Selection
The librarian selects resources in collaboration with CADH faculty who have subject expertise. Students and staff may suggest titles.
- Level of scholarship
- Reputation of the author and publisher
- Geographic coverage and language
- Relevance to CADH core subjects
The Program Director holds the final decision on purchases and withdrawals.
Donations
The library welcomes current books and non-print materials that directly support CADH curriculum, clinical, or research needs. Newly published books are especially welcome. Serial donations are accepted only when they fill specific collection gaps.
Donated materials become CADH property and may be used or disposed of as the College considers appropriate. The library does not provide tax appraisal receipts, but it can provide a formal acknowledgement with the donor-supplied itemized list.
Monetary gifts are welcome and can support special items or programs beyond the library’s normal means.
Internet use
Internet access is provided to support CADH academic goals. The internet is a global network containing material beyond CADH control; a link from the library site is not an endorsement.
- Do not use library internet services for illegal, actionable, criminal, or unauthorized purposes.
- Do not alter, tamper with, or damage computer equipment, internet access, or software configurations.
- Use guidelines may be revised as services and technology change.
Failure to follow the internet-use policy may result in loss of internet privileges or expulsion from the library.
